Sister Joann Hothersall

I was drawn to St. Benedict's Monastery by the witness of the Sisters to a strong life of prayer and community. In the fall of 2010, I made monastic profession and now I am totally committed to walking in the path of St. Benedict. It is a joy to share the common life, praying, working, studying the rule, and recreating with my Sisters. My favorite quote from the Rule of Benedict is, “Listen with the ear of your heart.” That is what I strive to do each and every day.

Before I joined the Benedictine Sisters of Pittsburgh, I belonged to another community of women religious. I have been a vowed Sister for 40 years.  All of it is good.

Presently, I am ministering to children who attend St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Allison Park by doing whatever is needed and helpful for the children.  We provide a “before and after” school program that includes an eight week summer camp. My work is with children from kindergarten to grade five. The diversity is both challenging and rewarding.
