Sister Julia Makowski

A little bit of me is in the following statement: “God writes straight with crooked lines”!  It is surprising that, though I often said that I would never be a nun,  I have already lived more than 60 years of vowed life in this Benedictine Community!

During these years, I have been a teacher, principal, novice directress, sub-prioress, parish secretary, bookkeeper and office manager. It’s been a rather full life, I’d say, and an abundantly blest one as well!

I treasure my prayer life, my life in Community and those whom God has chosen to help me become the person that from all eternity I was destined to be.  In the Rule of St. Benedict we are taught, “As we progress in this way of life and in faith, we shall run on the path of God’s commandments, our hearts overflowing with the inexpressible delight of love.”  This thought has always given me hope and joy.

Would I recommend this Benedictine life to others?  To anyone feeling called to serve the church as a religious sister and who is serious about following what seems to be her vocation, I would say unhesitatingly, “Come, try it and experience the blessing that awaits you!”
